John's Background Switcher is a seemingly simple tool for making your desktop come to life. How many times do you switch your PC (or laptop) on and think - blimey, that Windows desktop is boring.
The time interval of picture change can be configured to your requirement. Sources of pictures include your computer, Flickr, Facebook, and lots of other photograph sites, but the most useful image searches are performed at Google, Bing, and Yahoo.
Screenshot #1 shows some example picture sets made up from "Folders on your computer", "Flickr photos" and "Google image searches". Note that these sets are individually selectable (only Google image searches are selected in this example).
Screenshot #2 shows the 13 different picture sources that can be used to update your background.
Screenshot #3 shows an example desktop background with JBS calendar.
There are a multitude of configuration options for you to play with but the better news is that it's free (but you can donate if you wish). Moreover, the tool is very well supported. Finally, it is extremely reliable (NB. as tested on Windows Vista)
A very pleasing tool that does exactly what it says on the tin.
Pros
- Does what it says on the tin
- Reliable
- Free
- Supported
- Many configuration options
- Includes a desktop calendar (if you want one)
Cons
- May slow down your productivity because you'll spend more time looking at the amazing desktop images
fine, very useful :-)
